iOS 9 update?

Many iOS uses have taken a wait and see view of updating their phones whe Apple releases an update. This is understandable given the problems some users have experienced in recent years. These include slower devices after an update, memory issues and in the worst case - a phone that is critical to work and daily life that no longer works! So, should you take the risk and install the all new iOS 9?

The current update seems to have been smoother this time around with fewer reported problems. Given this, an update is worth considering depending on your phone or iPad model.

If you have anything earlier than an iPhone 5, you will likely experience poor performance - laggy keyboard and screen updates. Similarly, anything earlier than an iPad Air will also start to feel like it's wading through mud. Think carefully before updating older devices.

Why update if I have a later device? There are a number of benefits:

A 10% Increased battery life is claimed by Apple. Better performing Siri - useful for getting work done handsfree in your car. And for power users, the new iOS provides an iCloud app to easily and directly access files stored across your devices using Apples "Dropbox" like cloud service.

If you use an IPad Air 2, the split screen function is a killer reason to upgrade. Having safari open alongside notes or your calendar is great for productivity.

We have been using iOS 9 without any serious issues on the iPhone 6 and iPad Air. It is worth the effort to upgrade. As usual, always backup first!
